A Day in the life of a Balinese Lady (3)

A variety of tastes and colours

Penny with ceremonial chopper!

Cheers hard work this cooking

Our lunch - nasi goreng
Our chicken satay cooking

Our lunch, satay, salad, tofu, and fish

Yum, yum!
Finally we began the cookery part of the day. Penny showed us a variety of different foods which we were able to smell, taste as well as see - a memorable experience! Then onto the practical bits. We made a bumbu bali sauce, chicken satay with our own peanut sauce, tofu parcels,  fish wrapped in a banana leaf and nasi goreng. Everything was ground with a pestle and mortar or squeezed by our own fair hands. Lorina got so engrossed with cooking nasi goring that she didn't realise her tea towel was on fire - fortunately Penny was alert! It was truly a superb day which will certainly impact on my (Lorina's) cooking. Nigella and Heston eat your heart out! Forget snorkelling go to Bali Asli
